Porting your number also cancels your service for that number with your old provider. If you have multiple services with that provider, a number port doesn't cancel those other services.
Please note: CheapConnect only handles the number port itself — actually cancelling your other services (and checking that this happened correctly) remains your own responsibility. CheapConnect recommends waiting to cancel until after the porting request has been accepted. When you cancel, make clear that it concerns an outgoing number port, not a termination of the number.
Can any number be ported to CheapConnect?
Yes, by law you're allowed to bring your number with you to another provider.
Is my number still reachable during porting?
Yes, absolutely. We send you your VoIP account details well in advance, so you can configure your device beforehand and start receiving incoming calls on it as soon as the port takes effect.
How does number porting work?
A porting process takes about 15 days on average. It can often go faster, but this depends heavily on your current provider.
After you place your order, we verify that you're the owner of the number — this may require a few documents. Once that's confirmed, we submit the port for approval to your current provider. After they approve it, we schedule a date and time for the actual port.
Once accepted, you'll already receive your account's SIP details, so you can start making outgoing calls right away. If you configure your equipment in advance, your phone number won't become unreachable.
How do I have multiple SIP accounts ring on one number?
With CheapConnect, you're limited to registering (SIP registration) one device per phone number.
If you want multiple devices (SIP devices) to ring behind a single phone number, you need to request SIP accounts without a phone number attached. You then register your devices on those SIP accounts, and use the number's forwarding list to have calls ring on all of them simultaneously.
If you'd like a step-by-step walkthrough, you can find it in the manual on this topic.
Can I call 0800/0900/0906/0909 numbers?
You can call both free (0800) and paid (0900/0909/0906) numbers — also known as service numbers. We don't charge any surcharge on these numbers.
Can I call 112 (emergency services)?
Yes, that's possible.
How do I configure an account?
To set up our VoIP account, you'll need the following details: - username: this is your phone number in international format (e.g. 31851234567). You'll find this in your welcome email or in your portal. - password: also found in your welcome email or portal. - outbound proxy and/or SIP server: voip.cheapconnect.net
A CheapConnect internet connection doesn't come with a modem by default. We give customers the freedom to connect their own modem. For the most common models, we offer support to get your internet working if there are problems. Firewall settings and internal configuration are entirely under your own control. No port is ever blocked.
After a year, your account/number automatically expires if you don't renew it. You can renew via our control panel, where you can choose to extend your account/number by 1 or 2 years. You can of course also renew early — the extra period is simply added to your current one.
Once your account/number has expired, you can no longer use it. We keep your number in reserve for at least two more months, so you can still renew it at no extra cost.

CheapConnect runs its platform in duplicate — if one location unexpectedly has an outage, the other locations have enough capacity to absorb it. For telephony, it's essential that you're always 'reachable'. We also use only A-brand equipment and high-quality connections. That way, calling through CheapConnect isn't just cheaper — it's also better quality.
We monitor our network's voice quality 24/7.
How do you offer such affordable telephony?
By using automated systems, we save on high staffing costs, expensive office space, admin overhead and so on. We also use a prepaid system, so we're always certain costs are covered. That means we have no high costs for debt collection agencies, and we can price our service knowing 100% of our costs are covered. That's what lets us stay this sharp!
